Rock em, Sock em, and Knock em!

On Wednesday I rocked at an Interview I had with a small recruitment firm that has been in business for 15 years, has a great company culture and offers a opportunity to hit the ground running! My observations when I walked in were; a small staff, everyone smiling and no one looked like they had a migraine. The staff really looked passionate about their jobs and like they were happy to be there.   The hiring manager was very impressed I had done my “homework” on the company. It seems there would be room to grow and broaden my horizons.  We talked about the past, present, and future of how business is  done, and how it has evolved in Human Resources.  It was a great conversation over the course of 1 and 1/2 hours. What surprised me the most was that we spoke about social media. We talked about applications and implementation.  She mentioned that she never uses the newspaper, and advertises on job boards.  Also, she mentioned that she has been seriously considering exploring social media as a tool for the organization.  I mentioned how interesting Twitter has been for me personally and professionally, and the value of networking.   I also said from a recruitment and sales perspective, tweeting could very well become the New Cold Call.  Oh the possibilities…………

I left the interview feeling confident, empowered, energized and excited about the career opportunity presented to me. I hope you’ll continue to follow me on this great journey. The excitement is mounting!

  1. Brilliant. Indeed, Twitter is the new cold call. People are publishing books as we speak about how twitter can be an outstanding tool for jobseekers and recruiters alike. All of your twitter pals wish you the very best of luck in your future endeavor. If this firm doesn’t snatch you up toot sweet, rest assured someone else will. With talent like yours, celebrate Shennee, celebrate.

  9. Twitter..the new cold call. I like that comparison. You may have started a new catch phrase for the recruiting industry 🙂

  10. This is good blogging. Short, sweet, easy to read.

I would separate it into a few paragraphs to make it more scannable.

Good luck with the follow through

  11. It’s great that you are able to confidently talk about Twitter as it relates to your professional life! That is really key to being the “stand out” candidate – going above and beyond and doing something that most people are not!

I hope you have good news to share soon! Congrats on launching your blog – another aspect that can help you stand out in this competitive market.

  12. Shennee, glad to see such a positive attitude about a job search. So often fear of rejection and disappointment wear one down and that only serves to further delay success. The fact you have embraced the search as a journey and challenge is awesome 🙂 ~Karla

  16. There’s nothing quite like a great interview to have you walking on air and thinking about the possibilities.

I love that you took note of the happy work environment and enthusiasm of the staff. You can definitely tell a lot about a company by keeping your eyes open as you pass through the office.

It’s also great that you were able to have such a conversational interview. I’m sure the hiring manager appreciated that you brought something new to the table (Twitter).

Have you worked in the recruiting industry previously? I can tell you its one of the toughest and greatest jobs you’ll ever love.

Best of luck to you and to the company who has the opportunity to hire you.

  17. Just awesome! How wonderful that you are sharing this journey AND sharing with a potential employer the cool and groovy tools that you are *already* using. [Don’t say nanner nanner to the interviewer but I was thinking it.] 🙂

Can’t wait to hear what’s next!

  18. The way you describe your interview experience is almost palpable! Words like ‘passionate, confident, energized and empowered’ pump up your message.

I’m so excited for you, Shennee. Your positive attitude and spirit prevail in your communications!

  21. Shennee, great job reading the environment. Sounds like you uncovered a gem of an opportunity. Just out of ccuriosity, how did you find out about this opportunity? I’m betting it was through a networking approach of some kind… Great blog post, btw. 🙂

  22. Wow! Great post Shennee, and reading the comments there’s a lot of love out there for you!!
Your blogging and tweeting style is open, honest and passionate and that is so the right way to be! The way that you are inviting us on your journey is brave too!

Really hope the interview leads somewhere…to meet a recruitment firm that is beginning to get social media is rare, and I’m sure that they will realise that you can help them on the journey.

Good luck…look forward to reading the next instalment!
